Blogging: How to Know When to Stop Blogging

One good article at Lorelle.

But, because there is also a but, I kinda disagree on some points.

1. Vague, empty blogging just because it’s something to do, or because everyone else is doing it, is useless and a time waster. Stop blogging.

You can always not read the posts on that blog. Noone will pressure you to read what you don’t want.

2. Stop blogging if you do not have the time: If your time is limited and you can’t find time to blog, don’t. You don’t have to post every day. You don’t have to post ten times a day. In fact, you don’t have to post more than once a week. Control your time and if you feel the time crunch, don’t blog.

Anybody will find a 10 minutes break in 1 week to say something. It doesn’t matter on what they are blogging about ( personal, tech, space etc. ), but there will always be time for a summary. This MAY apply to number 3 too.

4. Don’t blog when you’ve run out of original things to say.

Ok, than 3/4 of Tech blogs ( and not only ) should stop blogging in this momment.

5. Blogging takes time, energy, commitment, discipline, organization skills, communication skills, and research and writing skills. Blog because you understand how it works and you enjoy blogging. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t have the temperament or personality for maintaining a blog, then don’t.

Blogging is for everyone.

6. Don’t blog when you are emotional

One of your readers answered this:

Edrei: Some of my best blog posts are written because I was emotional. I guess it depends on what your blog is about. To quote some a friend told me once about the way I blog is that I tend to overedit my own words until it becomes unnatural. When I stopped waiting to post and just post instead, I found out that it sounded better, aside from the grammatical and on occasion spelling mistakes.

12. Don’t blog about it unless you can prove it

I thought you said “Much of blogging is about sharing your opinion and voice on a subject”. It really depends on what you are blogging about. And if you “blog news” than make it a news site.

13. Stop blogging when there is no return on your investment

Wasn’t blogging a joy? Why personal blogs should make some revenue? Do you think 20$/month is so much that can “destroy the joy of writing”?

And remember, blogging is for everyone, but not everyone should be blogging.

Oh wait, at the beggining you said “Blogging isn’t for everyone”.

I guess you should insert at every point what kind of blogs applies the rule to ( personal, tech, fishing, photo ).

Besides that it could be a great article. It remains to read between lines to find what which rule is appropriate for every one of us.

And, in my oppinion, just READ WHAT YOU WANT, WRITE WHAT YOU WANT, we all have a different personality and we will find someone to think that what we write is interesting and maybe useful. Just write what’s on your mind. This is the only way to get better.

Don’t read an article because X or Y wrote that. They can also be wrong. Just write and read what you think is good for you.

Thanks,
