Blogging: How to Know When to Stop Blogging

One good article at Lorelle.

But, because there is also a but, I kinda disagree on some points.

1. Vague, empty blogging just because it’s something to do, or because everyone else is doing it, is useless and a time waster. Stop blogging.

You can always not read the posts on that blog. Noone will pressure you to read what you don’t want.

2. Stop blogging if you do not have the time: If your time is limited and you can’t find time to blog, don’t. You don’t have to post every day. You don’t have to post ten times a day. In fact, you don’t have to post more than once a week. Control your time and if you feel the time crunch, don’t blog.

Anybody will find a 10 minutes break in 1 week to say something. It doesn’t matter on what they are blogging about ( personal, tech, space etc. ), but there will always be time for a summary. This MAY apply to number 3 too.

4. Don’t blog when you’ve run out of original things to say.

Ok, than 3/4 of Tech blogs ( and not only ) should stop blogging in this momment.

5. Blogging takes time, energy, commitment, discipline, organization skills, communication skills, and research and writing skills. Blog because you understand how it works and you enjoy blogging. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t have the temperament or personality for maintaining a blog, then don’t.

Blogging is for everyone.

6. Don’t blog when you are emotional

One of your readers answered this:

Edrei: Some of my best blog posts are written because I was emotional. I guess it depends on what your blog is about. To quote some a friend told me once about the way I blog is that I tend to overedit my own words until it becomes unnatural. When I stopped waiting to post and just post instead, I found out that it sounded better, aside from the grammatical and on occasion spelling mistakes.

12. Don’t blog about it unless you can prove it

I thought you said “Much of blogging is about sharing your opinion and voice on a subject”. It really depends on what you are blogging about. And if you “blog news” than make it a news site.

13. Stop blogging when there is no return on your investment

Wasn’t blogging a joy? Why personal blogs should make some revenue? Do you think 20$/month is so much that can “destroy the joy of writing”?

And remember, blogging is for everyone, but not everyone should be blogging.

Oh wait, at the beggining you said “Blogging isn’t for everyone”.

I guess you should insert at every point what kind of blogs applies the rule to ( personal, tech, fishing, photo ).

Besides that it could be a great article. It remains to read between lines to find what which rule is appropriate for every one of us.

And, in my oppinion, just READ WHAT YOU WANT, WRITE WHAT YOU WANT, we all have a different personality and we will find someone to think that what we write is interesting and maybe useful. Just write what’s on your mind. This is the only way to get better.

Don’t read an article because X or Y wrote that. They can also be wrong. Just write and read what you think is good for you.

Thanks,

Blogging: Get Instant Massive Blog Site Traffic by Comments

Leaving comments at other blogs has been known to yield instant massive traffic for many sites. Take careful note of the fact that I am NOT talking about spaming blogs with your selfishly irrelevant comments.

Here are seven courteous, ethical and legal ways to leave comments at other blogs and in the process create sudden massive traffic to your own blog as well as creating valuable links that will improve your ranking with major search engines.

1. Comment without a single link at blogger.com sites
You can comfortably make comments at blogger.com blogs (the vast majority of blogs out there are blogger.com blogs anyway) and interested persons will still be able to find you and your blog. All you have to do is to update your blogger.com profile so that when people click on your name, they will arrive on your profile page and be able to see what you want them to see. You don’t even need to have a blogger.com blog.

2. Offer genuine friendship and help as a clever, invisible way to link to your own blog.
When you come across a blog you really like or a post that you love, then this is the perfect opportunity to make friends. Leave a comment saying why you are so impressed and then add the fact that you have recommended their blog and the post you like in particular at your blog. Naturally you will need to tell them where to find the post. So linking to it in this case should be acceptable.

3. Use by the by-the-way method
Where you are absolutely sure that the information you have at your site will really be of great value to readers, then you can summarize the contents in your comment and sign off and then create another comment starting with the words “by the way for those interested in reading this article in full, you will find it at….” or something to that effect followed by the address to the particular page address where the article will be found. This allows the site owner to leave your original comment intact and delete your comment that contains a link to your site.

4. Quote from the directory article and not your site.
I make it a habit to post all my great articles at a popular articles directory. Many times I have found that where my site does not rank highly with search engines for keywords in a particular article, the same article at this articles directory will rank at the very top. Which is not too bad because the article will always have a resource box at the bottom that links back directly to my site, so a good percentage of those readers will still end up at my site.

5. Concentrate on one subject at a time
Remember that as you make comments at other blogs, you are contributing to the value of the content at those other sites. So the more valuable your tips and information, the better. The more insightful your observations, the more you will attract attention to yourself, which is what your objective in the first place is. To be able to make quality contributions, it helps a great deal if you concentrate on one subject at a time.

6. Use your comments to create more articles at your blog
Your time online is very valuable and visiting other blogs to read and then post a comment is admittedly a very time consuming exercise. To make the most of it, it is a good idea to cop all your comments to a word file and then use them later to create brand new articles and posts. Other people’s posts will also give you brilliant ideas for new articles at your blog, so you should also take careful note of them. After a while this will be a fun exercise that also contributes in a very big way to the quality of your content at your own site or blog.

7. When you disagree create an article at your blog and link.
When you disagree with a certain point of view at another blog, be sure to create a detailed article explaining your position in great detail. You can then go back to the blog whose view you don’t agree with and summarize your article and leave a second comment that links back to your article. Nobody will accuse of spam for this and it is the sort of thing that will create buzz and cause dozens and maybe even hundreds of other bloggers to quickly link to you. Folks love controversies.
